Week 13 Picks Last week 8-2 Overall 93-27 What a crazy ending to a wild game in Auburn last week. Just yesterday Mark Richt admitted that during the time out before the hail Mary pass that coaches did not tell the players to knock the ball down, why? Well Coach Richt explained that with 39 seconds left they were not anticipating a long throw into double coverage but instead believed the Auburn offense would throw under neath to try and pick up the first down. So now I add, as a coach dont you basically prepare for every possible scenario and just go ahead and throw out there to your young players Hey if they throw long, just knock it down, we dont need any heroes.I am still perturbed by the play and Im not even a big Georgia fan. I dont blame the players for making that fatal mistake, even though they should have known better. I suppose as an Alabama fan I can thank them for teaching us that lesson so our players dont do the same thing. I do know that it was told to Alabama players numerous times this week in practice. Each week I actually look at the full slate of game across the country to determine which ten to pick. Its not easy, some weeks tougher than others. If there are a ton of Top 25 match ups those will be my first choices but after that I try to find intriguing games and not obvious mismatches. This was one of those tough weeks. But I hope you like the choices. Michigan State at Northwestern - Its funny the lack of respect the media has given the Spartans. Not in the polls but on the radio talk shows. This is a really good team with a defense as good as Alabamas, not as deep but the first string is great. Northwestern was expected to be in contention for the Big Ten at the start of the year. But they have lost several games they probably should have won. Michigan States offense however is still not strong and can lose a game. But even on this road trip I think they get this one from the Wildcats. Michigan State 28 - Northwestern 14 Oklahoma at Kansas State - This looks like an easy pick but this is at Kansas State and against Bill Snyder. You just have to give Coach Snyder a lot of respect, he can come back from retirement and bring K-State back from the depths yet again. This man amazes me, what an incredible coach. As of today, Oklahoma is only a 4.5 favorite. Im going to go with the home team here on this one. Kansas State 31 - Oklahoma 28 Mississippi State at Arkansas - Two mediocre teams trying to salvage whatever they can from the season. Being at Arkansas I am inclined to go with the Hogs but after last week and seeing the Bulldogs defense I think they have the advantage in this game. They need to win 2 of their last 3 games to be bowl eligible. Mississippi State 35 - Arkansas 10 Texas A&M at LSU - This is probably the second best game of the day. Johnny football at Death Valley, his first visit. The LSU defense vs. the legs of Manziel. With all of the legal issues swarming around FSUs QB, Johnny has now taking the first place position in the Heisman race. But if A&M loses this game wouldnt you have to believe that would take him down a notch or two. I believe that LSU isnt going to lose two games in a row. Baton Rouge has a voodoo thing going on, there are some weird fans there and they will place a hex on Manziel and the Aggies. LSU 31 - Texas A&M 17 BYU at Notre Dame - BYU has had some on and off success all year. Notre Dames defense hasnt been as dominating as many expected. I still cant let go of the fact that BYU ran over 500 yards on Texas earlier in the season. I mean they ran them out of the stadium. Texas has turned out pretty good. Im just so unsure about Notre Dame these days, Tommy Reese at QB has been more liability than a help there. Notre Dame should win this game but the line is even right now. If BYU can get their running game moving, I just have to believe they can win one under Touchdown Jesus. I hate picking the Mormons but Im no Notre Dame fan either. BYU 24 - Notre Dame 19 Nebraska at Penn State - Bo Pelini better start winning some games and start winning them big or he wont be at Nebraska much longer. Penn State is short handed players and I just dont think as this game goes on they can hang with the corn boys from the MidWest. Nebraska 38 - Penn State 21 Vandy at Tennessee - Well one things for sure, Vandy is going to a bowl game, Tennessee is probably not. Well that is unless they win these last two and then theres no guarantee. Tennessee is actually the favorite in this game, thats only due to the fact it is being played in Knoxville. Vandy is not intimidated by the venue, they went into the Swamp and destroyed Florida. Tennesse has lost 3 games in a row and lost badly. I dont think they lose badly here but I do think they lose to the Commodores. James Franklin just breeds confidence and right now Vandy believes they can beat anyone. This loss will insure The Vols stay home for the holidays. Vanderbilt 27 - Tennessee 21 Missouri at Ole Miss - Big game for the Tigers. They must maintain their lead in the SEC East to insure a trip to Atlanta in 2 weeks. Yes the SEC Championship is now only 2 weeks away and no one is in yet. How crazy is that? That wont be decided until the week before. Ole Miss is no pushover, as Texas A&M and LSU found out. Ole Miss protects their turf well. But I believe Missouri wants that SEC East title so bad and they arent about to relinquish it to South Carolina who is just waiting for them to slip up. Missouris defense is too much for Bo Wallace and the Ole Miss Offense here. Missouri 35 - Ole Miss 24 Baylor at Oklahoma State - This is the game of the week. were going to find out a lot about these two teams. I may be totally wrong but I think I know who the better team is and actually its not very close. Baylor has just been lighting the score board up and they have some tremendous athletes all over the field. The Baylor Bears have never been 10-0 before, never ranked as high as #4. The weather forecast for Saturday in Stillwater is 32 and freezing rain. Brrrr. I think when this game is over the Cowboys will assert their dominance over the Bears. Oklahoma State is a really good team and stronger in every area. OK. State will pour it on Baylor if given the chance. Oklahoma State 49 - Baylor 28 Alabama vs. Chattanooga - My next door neighbor played for Chattanooga the last 4 years and he told me this game would get ugly. Thats not a shock and it better get ugly. This is a tune up game for next week. I think Bama will play very vanilla and show nothing to Auburn. Chattanooga is here to collect a paycheck and thats it. My whole family is going to Tuscaloosa for this game so well be there to watch this glorified practice game. I hope Saban doesnt take his foot off the pedal too soon. Alabama 56 - Chattanooga 3
