Week 2 ... Finding your Mojo Ive been asked a few times what motivates me to do yoga. Yoga is a personal journey; however as were both human, I assume we share similar emotions, challenges and/or experiences. As most of you know, I tree-changed from Melbourne 2.5 years ago not knowing anyone in Gippsland. I was an overweight, stressed out nut job, desperate for change. In the beginning there wasnt much about yoga I actually liked. I had regular conversations with Roger Malouf that went like this ... Roger ... Hey Andrea are you going to yoga tonight? Andrea ... I know I should but really cant be bothered Roger ... And thats exactly why you should go! My major motivator was not to get sick. My whole family was overweight with various chronic diet and lifestyle diseases. I refused to end up on medication for a preventable condition, which would make me constipated so Id then need another medication which would make me dizzy so Id need a third medication etc etc etc. Yoga was really difficult for me in the beginning ... I couldnt settle my raging mind, tree and half pigeon were the poses from hell and I fell on my head damaging my ego when I unexpectedly ripped out a handstand in Belinda Pownalls class. With regular practice my mind started to settle (although still something I work on), the aches and pains no longer dominated and I gained the clarity to identify, question and deal with my demons ... but the best thing was meeting and connecting with so many fantastic yogis. Antigravity yoga invoked both my playful side and love of adventure ... however it to started out as a hard slog ... I spent more time untangling myself from the hammock than actually doing asanas, I turned blue every time I came into front belt (I may have even slipped out a few bad words) and I was scared shitless to let go of the hammock in vitruvian man ... but now theres nothing more I love than a saturday morning class ... building upper body strength, practicing poses and most of all having a laugh with Sally Wood Jones, Sue Bush and the other flying yogis. Central Gippsland has an invaluable range of yoga styles and teachers ... I encourage you just to start by rolling out your mat ... who knows where it may lead? In summary ... For me, yoga is the difference that makes the difference. See you on the mat! Andrea Bradley
