Week #2 of NT readings: And Jesus came and said to them, ALL authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. (Matt. 28:18) I love how Jesus has the incredible right to proclaim this envious position that so many people in history have uttered to one extent or another but could never deliver. Why? Because they, themselves have suffered regret, unbelief, doubt, fear, hopelessness and sleepless nights; not to mention, the truth that hits square in the face, that they cannot guarantee freedom from the deepest darkest bondage, an omniscient/omnipotent presence and everlasting freedom from sin and pain. So, why can we trust Jesus with this bold exclamation? Because He is not here, for He has risen, as He said. (Matt. 28:6), because, yes, He has suffered, but with excruciating pain, purpose, obedience unto death, rejection by some of the highest earthly officials, the fullness of the wrath of God upon Him, and with my sin upon His shoulders. NOT TO MENTION, the truth that hits square in the face, that His power HAS broken my deepest chains, guaranteed His everlasting presence in my life and has given me ALL authority to one day see Him face to face eternally!
