Week 9 Scores & Notes: Hello everyone, and a happy Monday night to you. This update is coming out VERY late, so Im going to get through it as quickly as possible. Heres a quick summary before we get to the scores... Universal remains undefeated, Team Awesomeness remains defeated (yet awesome), Cross Culture clinches a playoff berth even though they didnt do anything, Gersh is loving the move to the West, and the top 6 teams in the East are all separated by a game and a half. Here are your Saturday scores: Gersh 15 - PYE 7 Gersh is not screwing around this year. They have not only announced their presence to their fellow Western Division teams by winning 4 of their first 6 division games, but now theyre beating up on their old division as well. But the loss doesnt necessarily hurt PYE very much as they remain in 4th place, just a game and a half out of 1st. Verve 9 - Jim Henson Co. 8 What a game these two played on Saturday! Henson was up 5-1 after 2, but 5 runs in the top of the 3rd would give Verve a 6-5 lead. Henson would get 3 back in the 4th to go up 8-6, but Verve quickly answered with 3 of their own to take a 9-8 lead. Then with runners on base a line drive snag by the pitcher sealed the game for Verve. CAA 12 - APA 7 Two of the best teams in the league clashed in this one but CAA would come out the winner. APA lead 3-1 before CAA took a 7-3 lead after scoring 6 in the 3rd. APA would answer right back with 4, tying the game at 7 apiece. CAA then added 5 more, then held on for the 12-7 win. Red Varden Studios 12 - UTA 11 Big win for Red Varden as they create a little space between themselves and Jim Henson for that last playoff spot. Red Varden was sitting pretty with an 8-2 lead in the 2nd, but had a real scare when UTA scored 2 in the 3rd and 7 more in the 4th to take an 11-8 lead. Red Varden would rally for 4 more though, then would hold UTA scoreless in the final frame to secure the victory. Universal 21 - Management 360 10 It was a tough draw for Management 360 as they faced the lone undefeated team in the league, and Universal would remain unbeaten after this one. It was all Uni early on as they lead 6-0 after 1 and 8-3 after 2. 360 would actually cut the lead to 9-7, but then in the 5th inning Universal scored 10 huge runs to put the game out of reach. Comedy Central 14 - Awesomeness TV 5 Its been a tough season for Awesomeness TV as they are still looking for their first win of the year, and first win since 2012. However I did a little research tonight and found that their last (and only) ESL win was against Comedy Central in week 5 of 2012. And not only was it a win, it was a 20-9 shellacking. That was not the story in this one as they played respectably but still fell. It was a much-needed win for Comedy Central as they now are a full game ahead of UTA for that last playoff spot. And unfortunately for Team Awesomeness the loss eliminates them from playoff contention. But knowing this group they will still manage to have a lot of fun finishing out the season, and hopefully their first W of the year isnt too far away.
