Weekend Box Office Update, Part One: The Debuts: Kicking off October are seven debuts. Here we go! An 800,000 dollar difference separates numbers one and two. Gone Girl opened this weekend an amazing recovery from Fridays $13 million release, to go on to gross $38 million. The Ben Affleck lead film had a strong word of mouth Saturday and Sunday. Gone Girl will have some longevity with award season coming up soon. It is possible that Gone Girl will have a run lasting until March 2015. However in the short-term expect Gone Girl to have a fair week ahead with and earning potential of at least $10 million Monday-Thursday. Next week expect a drop of 50% due to competition. A total run of $120 million is possible for Gone Girl. Opening at Number Two with $37.2 million is Annabelle, the horror prequel/tie-in to last years The Conjuring. Like Gone Girl, expect Annabelle to have a fair week with around 8-10 million dollars in earnings over the week with the two films flip-flopping a couple of the days. Unlike Gone Girl, Annabelle wont have the longevity. Next week expect a smaller drop of mid 40% for Annabelle, however the long run on it will be about $85 million. Left Behind opened at number 6, with $6.8 million, slightly below expectations. The long run on Left Behind should be a total of 30 million dollars. Opening this weekend at Number 12, is the international hit Bang Bang with $1.3 million on 271 screens. Bang Bang may not have a long run in the US Market however a short-term prediction may be close to $3 million domestically. The Good Lie with Reese Witherspoon debuted with $935,000, slightly low debut on 461 screens, a wider release is likely for the Ron Howard/ Brian Grazer film with a strong award push looming ahead. Two films opened between the $100,000-250,000 mark this weekend. The first is an import from China, is the Break-up Buddies grossing $250,000. The second is from recording artist Nas, called Nas: Time Illmatic earned $109,000 in it five day release.
