Weekend Coaches Report - Jim Akerman: Mudcrabs Win 56 - 5 The Mudcrabs Reserves travelled down to Innisfail on a hot Saturday afternoon to play a rejuvenated Atherton. In the pre-match team talk we spoke about the need to get off to a good start and we did. Instead of being 2 scores down in the first 10 minutes, we were 14 points up with the first try down to some brilliant individual work from Dale Ahwang who went on to cross the whitewash 5 times in a superb performance. It was a great all round team effort with the pack working the pods and stealing the opposition lineout to ensure we were always on the front foot. They were well marshalled by Liam Flanagan and skipper Luke Shew and every one to a man broke the gain line at least once during the game. A special mention to young Jamie Poa, who came off the bench and made an instant impact. We expect big things from him in the future. At starting half back, Cam Morris showed great awareness by making some quick snipes off of the back of the scrums and we saw the Aces use the possession to great effect. Another special mention for Joel Morris who kicked 8 from 8 in a flawless display. The other try scorers were Luke Allen, Russell Todd and Dane Fitzgerald who came on at scrum half. Next week we have Penrhyn at home and we want to carry the momentum forward into this game. So let’s get down to training on Tuesday and put the hard work in. We know there is still improvement to be made in areas like first up tackling, communication and fitness. Great effort Crabs. Let’s go Shark hunting!! - Jim Akerman (Eds Note: 3 points to Liam Flanagan (a couple in a row - tight as a fishs arsehole in a shout by all reports so dont expect any piece of his 2 x $50 vouchers), 2 points to Joelly Morris and 1 point a piece to Stuey Highlands and Braden Tindale. Two observations: 1. Coach Akerman has yet to grasp the concept of the top 3; 2. Flanno quite easily, by a country mile, the length of the straight and a sack of mangos is the best second-rower in the below photograph. Period.
