More Aviation News: US Airways this spring will launch new nonstop service between its largest hub at Charlotte, N.C. and Barcelona, Spain; Brussels, Belgium; Lisbon, Portugal; and Manchester, England. The four flights from Charlotte supplement the airlines current service to these destinations from its international gateway at Philadelphia International. Service to Barcelona, Lisbon and Manchester will begin May 22, 2014. Service to Brussels will launch on June 5, 2014. The new flights bring the number of international destinations US Airways serves from Charlotte to 38 — 10 cities in Europe and 28 in Canada, Mexico, Latin America, South America and the Caribbean. US Airways now serves 145 airports in 28 countries from Charlotte. More interesting News about American and US Airways merger. American just posted the largest quarter earnings in its history. The U.S. Justice Department brought an antitrust case in August to block the merger. The Justice Department says fliers would be hurt by reduced competition if the two carriers merge to form what could be the worlds largest airline. And it has argued that Americans financial turnaround in the nearly two years since it filed for bankruptcy means the merger is no longer necessary.
