Weekly Running Advice!!! Socks! There a many different types, colors, thicknesses, and fabrics out there to choose from. Some people prefer thicker socks for winter or trail running, and some people like thinner ones in the summer. Most importantly, look for socks with synthetic materials – acrylic, CoolMax, or polyester. They’ll help wick moisture away from your feet. Remember the saying, “Cotton is rotten!” when it comes to running socks. Wet feet can cause debilitating blisters. Volunteer! Whether you volunteer at a road race or within your running group it’s a great way to give back, get motivated, connect with other runners, and get excited about running! Some possible benefits of volunteering are discounts at races/future races, free t-shirts, increased self confidence, pride, and satisfaction. The beauty is that you’re not only helping others, but you’re helping yourself as well. Help create a big impact in your community and volunteer! Usain Bolt! Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt is a 6 time Olympic Gold Medalist winning the 200 meter race, 400 meter race and the 4 x 100 meter relay at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and again at the 2012 London Olympics. He’s the first man to win three sprinting events and first man to set record for three sprinting events in one Olympic. He holds the world records for the 100 meter race - 9.58 seconds, 200 meter race - 19.19 seconds, and the 4x100m relay – 36.84 seconds. He also gives back to his community through his foundation by donating PE equipment and clothing to kids and teachers at his alma mater, helping construct a lunch room and rewiring the entire school, building a health center in his community, and donating signed items for auctions. “I know what I can do so I never doubt myself.” Usain Bolt
