Weekly WoW ProTip: Speaking from my experience as a main tank... As a tank in an MMO you have 2 jobs: 1) Keep the mob hitting you (take damage / build aggro) 2) Position the mob so it does the least amount of collateral damage to the rest of the raid team (Positioning) I was in a raid last night on my mage where the tank left the boss facing the raid... as everyone was screaming for him to turn the mob away from the raid, he took the time to explain to the raid (24 other people) how they should move instead of him... seconds later we wiped because of a massive front-cone AOE that would have only hit him had he taken 3 seconds to position. I know tanks take a lot of unnecessary blame when things go wrong, but that was completely avoidable, so as a PSA, if you want to know why the tank should move, and not the entire raid, here is why: 1) - MASSIVE DPS loss when the raid, as a whole moves 2) - MASSIVE HPS (healing) loss when the raid moves 3) - Knockback - If you are knocked back into the raid you are inviting melee mechanics and PBAOE to damage the raid. 4) - Exit Paths - If the raid has to move past the mob to exit damaging ground mechanics they are vulnerable to mechanics like cleave Mobs should always be positioned in a manner that allows the raid the maximum amount of mobility with the least susceptibility to the mechanics of the fight. Always have the rear or side of the mob (depending on the fight) facing the raid and do your best to pull it to a wall or corner to mitigate knock back and open up room for the raid to move.
