Weekly report from the NSW Arbovirus Surveillance - TopicsExpress

Weekly report from the NSW Arbovirus Surveillance Program. Summary: Happy New Year to all, and hope you and your family had an enjoyable festive season! Relatively few mosquito collections were made over the last two weeks. Some of the biggest collections were from the Georges River sites, with ‘very high’ numbers of Aedes vigilax. There was also the first RRV for the season, made at the Deepwater site at Bankstown. At this time of the year it is unusual for arbovirus isolates from coastal sites, however the FTA card system is more sensitive than cell culture and this detection may be a reflection of the greater sensitivity of the new testing system. Continuing monitoring at this site will reveal if there are any serious risks to the community from RRV. Report from Stephen L. Doggett | Senior Hospital Scientist |Department of Medical Entomology,
