Weighing in: A woman (a person) has a right to choose to use - TopicsExpress

Weighing in: A woman (a person) has a right to choose to use contraceptives. An owner (a person) of a company has a right to honor his/her religious convictions. The government (which is for the people by the people in THIS country, at least historically) does NOT have the right to dictate to either person. I see a woman having a choice to either pay for the contraceptives or choose to work for another person or not use them and exercise either restraint or other responsible behaviors. I see an owner having a choice based on personal convictions to not cover an item of insurance. I do NOT see an owner making a choice to not pay for contraceptives (based on their religious beliefs) as somehow diminishing the status of the woman who chooses to use contraceptives. The issue seems to me to be that, as a nation, we have grown to expect our choices to be subsidized by the government and we resent totally and completely when the person whom we feel SHOULD be taking care of us turns to us and says, This is your choice. You pay for it. The progressive infantalization of the American people (that includes women) seems to me to be more of a diminishment of a woman as a person than an owner of a PRIVATELY OWNED COMPANY saying, I dont believe in artificial contraception and therefore, I will not pay for it. Whether I agree with that persons idea is immaterial. That person (the owner of the private company) has the right to choose. The government does NOT have the right to choose for the owner. The woman has the right to choose and to own the choice. Discuss. : - ) #HobbyLobby
