HIIT: High Intensity Interval Training HIIT training, requires you to work at a higher percentage of your max heart rate for shorter durations before you bring your heart rate down and recover. This will do the following: 1. Because of the higher intensity, your muscles are forced to burn carbohydrates and high energy phosphates to accomplish your quick bursts. 2. Because your fuel source is different than steady-state running (jogging / long distance running) and you are forced to activate more muscles due to the explosive nature of HIIT training, your muscles wont adapt by shrinking. They get bigger...think long distance runner body type compared to a sprinter.
