Weird Al Yankovic still cant believe that he has his first number-one of his 35-year career. The man who created hit parodies of songs by Michael Jackson in the 1980s, Nirvana in the 1990s and rapper Chamillionaire in the 2000s saw his latest album, Mandatory Fun, hit the top of the Billboard 200 chart powered by a campaign of eight music videos released in eight days. Yankovic admits that topping the album chart is something hes still trying to wrap my brain around... The fact that Ive been able to make a living out of this all this time that to me alone is success. But to have this kind of validation at this point in my career is pretty amazing. Heres a couple of historic feats Weird Al scored this week: Mandatory Fun is the first comedy album ever to debut at number-one and the first comedy album to top the album chart since Allan Shermans My Son, the Nut did it in 1963. Word Crimes, the parody of Robin Thickes Blurred Lines, debuted at number-39 on the Hot 100 singles chart. That means Yankovic joins a very select group of artists whove had Top 40 hits in the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s -- Madonna and Michael Jackson are the only other people to do that. Best of all he was on the phone with Jenn this afternoon only on Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI. Great interview, Jenn. If you missed it, follow this link to our website:oldies925/talk-show/show-interviews.
