Weirdest story. My father lived with my stepmother from the time I was in like 3rd grade i think, although definitely by 4th, but I think 3rd, maybe second. Anyway- my father tore apart the house wed all lived in with his bare hands and sometimes a jackhammer, and said ....oh, Jesus. Wow. I remember. This is me as a kid, I do not think I was normal. While he was doing this, I said to him something along the lines of, Dad, you cannot erase the family you once had. That is kind of weird, I think- to have the perception the house meant something to him like that? Or maybe not. People recognize others are individuals fairly early. Maybe people just dont say stuff like that, but it is just kind of there. It is actually a dorky thing to say. Frankly, I do not think now that had anything to do with my father, anyway, I think it was me projecting. So...my stepmother and father were designing this huge expensive and actually lovely house, except for the swimming pool, which turned out stupid, I think. And my stepmother said to me, (the living room was large; many rooms were so large that they sold the house with the original furniture in it, since it is otherwise hard to find furniture that is ready made that fits). So she says to me, we thought about putting a pond in the living room, maybe with something unusual and interesting, like an octopus. It says something about my overall childhood that I did not bat an eyelash. No exclamations, no uestions. I was like, Oh. I remember bragging about it at school. I had no idea stuff like that is probably not something you want to advertise. I am kind of socially clueless. But it is like waving a big freak flag at the uber conformity parade of rural elementary school. Mistake.
