Welcome, Narendra Modi, and your chosen team to govern this great country! I have heard the solemn promises you have made to me, and to every other citizen of this country: to keep faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India, to uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India, and to do right to all manner of people in accordance with the Constitution and the law without fear or favor, affection or ill will. I too make solemn promises to you today. I promise that I will honor and respect you as the democratically elected leader of the country. In this democracy, the leader is also the servant of ordinary people, and so I will expect you, in return, to honor and respect the weakest and most defenseless citizen of this land. I promise that I will pray for you, that God will give you the wisdom, strength and skill to govern well, fulfill the promises you have made to us, and take this country on a path that will benefit every citizen. I promise that I will hold you accountable to this oath you have taken. I will honor, appreciate and support you when I see you are doing right and criticize and oppose policies which do wrong to any one of our fellow country-men. I will always speak the truth with neither flattery nor contempt and without being swayed by the media, spin doctors and yes men. I will work together with you for the transformation of individuals and communities, growth and development that will include and benefit every last member of our great democracy. So help me God!
