Welcome artist Nora Ferragatta St. Jean to the gallery! Nora Ferragatta St. Jean! ABOUT NORA: My name is Nora Ferragatta St. Jean, and I am a first generation Italian. I have been surrounded by art culture all of my life. I am the daughter of two Italians who came to the United States over forty years ago, with their entire family still living throughout Europe today. Growing up in a traditional Italian household, provided me with the opportunity to educate and immerse myself with the amazing history of Italian art and culture. I began my artistic aspirations very young, and have continued to learn, educate myself, and practice various styles and techniques of art. I have studied at various colleges in Connecticut, including The Hartford Art School and Quinnebaug Valley College. I have excelled at various artistic techniques that include Advanced Drawing, Three Dimensional Sculpture, Printmaking, Photography, and Art History. I have also studied art in Rome, Italy at the world renowned Istituto Italiano Arte Artigianato e Restauro. My studies in Rome helped me become well versed in the fresco techniques of the old masters, and also in art restoration. In 1996, while studying at the Institute, I also had the privilege to witness the restoration team performing their extraordinary conservation work of the Sistine Chapel. My time spent in Italy was also used to acquire personal training and study from my aunt, the respected Italian artist, Martha Fondra. I have spent many years studying oil painting, charcoal and pencil drawings, etching, printmaking, and egg tempera- gold leaf icons with Ms. Fondra both in the United States and in her studio located in Santa Maria Delle Mole, Rome, Italy. As a compliment to my studies in Italy, my time spent there has allowed me to become personally familiar with many examples of great Italian art that can be seen in Rome at the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Cathedral, the four Basilicas, and in Florence at Palazzo Pitti and Galleria degli Uffizi. It was there that I received a first place award for my dry point etching entry at the Il Punto Gallery in Rome. Earlier on in my career, I was commissioned by Papa Gino’s Pizza Company to help decorate the interior of a number of their restaurants throughout New England. I was asked to design and create original artwork to display in these restaurants. My work included designing and painting six Italianesque murals (4ft x 3.5ft) for their restaurants in Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. I painted two original murals (17ft x 6ft) and (9ft x 6ft) that would define the restaurants interior atmosphere, in one of the largest outlets in Taunton, Massachusetts. My more recent endeavor, was to try to replicate my artwork into high resolution canvas prints, and reach out to a larger scale of people, after years of working on this project, that attempt had finally come to fruition last summer. An assortment of my Floral Painting - canvas prints were available across the country in Home Goods stores in August, 2012, I currently work with a publisher/agent who represents me in the art Industry, and I continue to create new designs/paintings full time. I enjoy living in the northeast corner of CT with my husband and three children, and also specialize in custom oil on canvas/linen, murals, portraits, and reproductions, and have enjoyed my work displayed in galleries and restaurants throughout New England, Belgium, and Italy.
