Welcome back to another week of 80sObscurities. I’m properly dressed (those of you who caught all the attention over the Armor press photos this weekend will get the joke) and ready to spin some records for you again, loyal listeners. It will be another short week for 80sObs, as your humble host departs tomorrow evening for the much-anticipated KOMA Festival in Oslo, Norway. Appropriately, I’ve lined up some Scandinavian sounds for us today. Shatoo hails from Halden/Asker and started out in 1987 as a literal teen boy band; members Dag Brandth, Calle Marcussen and Øyvind Haavik were between 15-17 years old when they released their debut-album, "A True Story". Our featured 80sObs selection is their debut single, "Overload", the first English-language winner at Norsktoppen and a #1 chart hit. A second album, "Life", arrived in ‘88, followed by a solo album from Brandth before the band’s short career ended. However, faithful fans rejoice. Earlier this year the band announced their return, with original members Brandth and Marcussen (now Varfjell) and new players Geir Bratland (ex-Apoptygma Berzerk/Dimmu Borgir) and Per Aksel Lundgreen (ex.-Apoptygma Berzerk/Chinese Detectives). It’s a smörgåsbord of synthpop (well, “koldtbord” I guess, technically) to kick off your 80sObscurities week. Eat up!
