Welcome back to the new school year. I’m sure you’ve noticed that construction of the new West Preston Middle School has begun. That is exciting news but it brings many challenges for us all. I am pleased to announce that Valley Elementary School has been designated as a Free Lunch School! This means that every child at Valley Elementary School will receive FREE lunch and breakfast all year! More information will come home with your child on the first day. You do not need to fill out any forms for this. You do not need to send in any money for lunch or breakfast. If your child wants an extra milk or milk only, they will need to pay 35 cents. That is the only cost to you this year. This is for Valley Elementary children only. West Preston and Preston High students will still pay for meals and fill out forms for free and reduced meals. School begins at 7:30 this year and ends at 2:25. We start 10 minutes earlier and get out 8 minutes later than last year. Children arriving after 7:30 will be marked tardy. The Kiss and Drop has changed. You may drop off your child starting at 6:50 but drop off will end at 7:20 this year. Please use the upper road by the church to enter the Kiss and Drop line. The traffic pattern will remain the same as last year except you will now stop in front of the gym and drop your children there. Children will enter the upper doors of the gym and staff will escort them to breakfast and then class. Middle School and High School students will need to be dropped off at the same location. Busses and Staff will use the lower road and staff will need to merge into your line so they may park and get inside to supervise the children. Please be aware of this and do not block the roads that lead behind the gym. Pick ups in the evening will follow the same pattern. Please, do not come inside to pick up your children. No parents should be on the lower road. Also, no parents should enter the bus lot near the flag pole of the school except from 8am – 2pm. If you have needs for handicapped access, please call the school so we may make suitable arrangements for your access to the school. The parking at the school is limited. Some teachers are carpooling as there is not enough parking for all the staff. This means that parents will not be permitted to enter the school to escort your child to class as there will be no parking. This is a major safety issue. Please be patient and cooperative. Due to the construction, Valley Rally has been postponed. Popsicles on the playground has been cancelled. Access to the playground is limited and the parking issues dictate that we postpone these activities. Your child’s teacher will be contacting you with information on how to set up individual conferences in the near future. Thanks for your patience. Remember that in the end, we are getting a new school and upgraded facilities for our children. Please realize that we are always trying to do what’s best for the children.
