Welcome from the Chief As Chief of the Department of Urology, I would like to welcome you to St. Francis Hospital. I am proud to inform you that St. Francis is not only the leading institution in cardiac care, but also urological care. The department has the latest technology such as the green light laser, da Vinci surgical robotic system as well as cryoablative treatment for tumors of the urinary tract. - Felix L. Badillo, M.D., Chief of Urology The Urology Department at St. Francis Hospital provides leading edge treatment of benign and malignant disease of the prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular and adrenal glands. Our department consists of urologists certified by the American Urological Association. Several of our urologists have an expertise in robotic surgery, which allows them to utilize non-invasive techniques to minimize the physical and emotional impact of surgery on patients. St. Francis surgeons recently introduced the da Vinci Surgical System for performing prostate surgery. Our Chief of Urology, Felix Badillo, M.D., who specializes in minimally invasive procedures and has performed more laparoscopic kidney surgeries than any other surgeon on Long Island, is leading the da Vinci initiative at St. Francis Hospital. Our doctors also specialize in renal cell cancer, the most common type of kidney cancer that accounts for more than 90% of malignant kidney tumors. It is important to realize that kidney cancer can be cured. The survival rate for patients with kidney cancer ranges from 79% to 100%. More than 100,000 survivors of kidney cancer are alive in the United States. Conditions Treated •Prostate cancer •Kidney cancer •Urinary tract cancer •Testicular disease •Adrenal gland disease •Benign disease of prostate •Bladder disease •Bladder/urethral incontinence The da Vinci Radical Prostatectomy A series of small surgical incisions are made through the use of robotics. This technique offers significant benefits over traditional prostate surgery, including less pain and scarring, less risk of infection and blood loss, and faster recovery and shorter hospital stays. Laparoscopic Removal of Kidney Laparoscopic surgery provides the benefits of minimally invasive surgery, with a shorter hospital stay, less blood loss and a quicker recovery from surgery.
