Welcome new members of the IHSS Consumers Union. Please feel free to read the posts and express yourself if the spirit moves you. There is a wide diversity of opinions all along the political spectrum here and no one is censored (unless they spam up the entire page, which only happened once. :-). We have been engaged in David and Goliath struggles on three different matters, and we have been remarkably successful, given what we were up against in all three of them. We have fought to make sure that IHSS consumers have informed consent, about whether they should join Cal Mediconnect or not. Currently, everyone is receiving highly confusing notices and we have taken great pains to make sure the truth gets out. You will see a new scoop this week about how we are protecting IHSS Consumers from passive enrollment into managed-care, without the ability to make an informed choice or sign a comprehensible choice form. The other campaign. We have mounted was against 75 hours of mandatory training for IHSS consumers which you see us celebrating about at the top of the page. We did demonstrations and petitions and luckily the attempt never made it to the ballot because of a enormous amount of invalid signatures. The other campaign we mounted was to prevent IHSS providers from getting their hours capped to avoid paying overtime. Weve tried on the federal level to suspend these Department of Labor rules about overtime until a compromise could be made that would not result in capping IHSS workers hours throughout the nation. At the same time we worked on the state level to make sure the legislature understood how tragic it would be if IHSS provider hours were capped at 40 hours a week. That tragedy has been averted, mostly, but there are still some people being negatively affected, and we continue to work on the federal level to suspend the federal overtime rules for 18 months until they can be studied with all impacted stakeholder representatives until they DO NO HARM to anybody in any state.
