An inland surface trough lies over the central interior and will shift westwards today before weakening over western Queensland on Saturday. An upper level trough will shift northeastwards over the state during today and Saturday before weakening on Sunday. A new surface trough will move east over southern Queensland during Sunday, followed by a firm ridge from a strong high moving across the Bight. Forecast for the rest of Friday Partly cloudy with widespread showers and thunderstorms about the Central Coast, extending southwest through the central interior. Scattered showers and thunderstorms through the eastern tropics and the southern tropical interior, Central West and northern Warrego. Some thunderstorms will be possibly severe. More isolated shower and thunderstorm activity developing over remaining areas east of about Normanton to Winton. Fine and mostly sunny in the west and also through the far southeast. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeast winds over eastern districts, tending moderate southwest to southeasterly in the west. Saturday 2 November The high will move slowly east over the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. The inland surface trough is expected to move further west into western districts before weakening late in the day. The upper level trough is expected to move northeastwards into the tropics. Showers and thunderstorms will therefore gradually decrease over central districts and focus more through the eastern tropics south of about Cooktown. Isolated showers and thunderstorms should also occur through remaining northern districts and through the central west north of about Longreach in an unstable airmass northeast of the inland trough. Fine and partly cloudy conditions are expected elsewhere. Mostly light ti moderate southeast to northeast winds, fresh at times in the central interior and near the coast. Fire Danger - High to Very High across the state. Sunday 3 November The high will move slowly east towards New Zealand whilst a new surface trough is expected to move east over the southern interior of the state. Warm conditions will spread through southern districts in the northwesterly wind flow ahead of the surface trough. The trough will extend patchy cloud through far southern districts, with possible isolated showers and thunderstorms developing during the afternoon and evening. The upper level trough will contract further northeast through the tropics, with showers decreasing over the northeastern tropics as a result. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will persist through the northwest of the state in a moist and unstable airmass, with possible isolated showers and thunderstorms also near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. Monday 4 November The surface trough will most likely contract east off the southern Queensland coast Monday, with a fresh to strong south to southeasterly wind flow and isolated showers extending northwards along the southern Queensland coast from the south in its wake. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast, while isolated showers should occur in an onshore wind flow about the northeastern Peninsula. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. A high moving east into southeastern Australia will extend a very dry airmass into the southern interior of the state and this should result in enhanced fire dangers through some parts. Tuesday 5 November The large high will enter the western Tasman Sea and extend a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast on Tuesday. Isolated to scattered showers will develop near the east coast in the onshore wind flow, and should extend into the southern and central interior to the east of a weak inland trough with possible isolated thunderstorms developing. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will persist through the western Peninsula and near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should continue in the west. ____________________________________________________ Forecast for the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands - Partly cloudy.
