Welcome to a special exclusive Cyberpunk Detective Café - TopicsExpress

Welcome to a special exclusive Cyberpunk Detective Café discussion group on Silicon Man by Bill Massa I am hoping we can all pitch in and discuss this fascinating book. At the end of the discussion for those of you who read the book, please feel free to give the book a review on amazon. I know the author would appreciate it. In addition, I hope that other on this list will chose to start and lead similar discussions on books, telivision shows, or movies. So with thisin mind, lets get started. I found this book to hit the major cyberpunk themes of dystopia, man-machine integration and overpowering corporate interests. This book is rich in description of a dystopia our world has already seen- oppression. Personally, I found this to be a wonderful novel, which you don’t have to be totally into cyberpunk fiction to enjoy. This work of superior imagination looks at what does it mean to be human. In the book, androids are not considered people- even though some of them have clearly exceeded their programming. In essence, the book creates the conditions of oppression for androids. I found this book filled with people to care for and an allegory for some issues of current as well as historic moral concerns. One quote I loved “Androids might force humans to take a hard look at themselves and rise to the level of their machine brethren.” (p. 114)
