Welcome to my world Healthwatch raises concerns about the way that NHS services deal with deaf people in Kirklees This is a piece of work that’s currently being carried out by Healthwatch Kirklees. Healthwatch is the new consumer championfor residents around health and social care issues. Over the last few months Healthwatch has picked up some concerns from people who are Deaf or hard of hearing in Kirklees that they are having mixed experiences when they access health services. A lot of the time this has been around the lack of BSL interpreters at GP or other appointments, or inconsistencies when people are at the hospital or other NHS appointments. People said there needed to be more awareness raising and understanding from health professionals about the needs of people who are Deaf or hard of hearing. So Healthwatch want to hear your views and your experiences to help come up with some solutions and recommendations to improve things. You can take part in any of the focus groups which have been arranged. Or you can complete the on-line or freepost survey https://surveymonkey/s/H3WJ5CX Focus Group 4th November, 2013 at 2.00 p.m. - 3.00 p.m. at Dewsbury Deaf Society at Batley Irish Club, The Irish Centre (opposite Wellington House Surgery, Batley WF17 5DL). A second Focus Group is on 6th November, 2013 at 2.00 p.m. - 3.00 p.m. at Huddersfield Deaf Centre, Trinity St, HD1 4DN. Or if these dates arent convenient, people can get in touch and where there are sufficient numbers, a separate focus group can be arranged to accommodate anyone who is interested in taking part.
