Welcome to our new likes and followers! We thought itd be helpful to give just a quick overview of what were about. Though currently we are running the emergency shelter in Chelan at the high school and assisting in Okanogan at the fair grounds, a more common task for us is to help animals immediately in distress -- we are often called to retrieve a dog who has fallen over a cliff, or pull a horse out of a well when theyve fallen in. We never decide on our own to just show up. In order to be in a place like Chelan or Okanogan. In cases like this, we are called by someone in authority such as a sheriff. This means we are part of the FEMAs disaster response and take our orders from the command structure. (Interested? Read up on ICS.) The bonus of this is we get to work with great people and organizations and pool our experiences and skill sets. We are trained to handle companion animals such as dogs and cats, and also livestock and other animals large and small: horses, cattle, llamas, alpacas, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, and rabbits. We train all year long, and each member who decides to deploy works toward a state of Washington emergency worker badge. We have background checks and are CPR/First Aid qualified. Some members decide to join the Technical Rescue Team, who are the awesome volunteers get in a harness and rope and go over steep terrain, or rig an animal for rescue. Not everyone goes that route. Others are in it to help out with shelters or to raise awareness or help fund raise. We are a 501(c)(3) all volunteer group, existing entirely on private donations. Some of our members have deployed with the ASPCA, some are also members of other volunteer groups like local search and rescue, and some of our vet members have traveled to help animals internationally. We come from a diverse background, but we all love animals. PS: If you think you might be interested in joining, we have Core Training coming up at the end of September. Most of our trainings are in King or Pierce Counties. Ping the training committee at [email protected] if youre interested, or ask below.
