Welcome to the 2014 snow season, well almost! :-) We are hoping to run our first Mt Buller 4.25am tours for 2014 on: Saturday 28th June and Tuesday 1st July. Shoulder season tours (late June, early July and early September) are usually Saturdays and Tuesdays. Friday early tours will be limited this year, so please check with us. For the early ski bus leaving at 4.25am, our tours are subject to not only snowfall but chairlifts operating. Bookings that come through for these dates must be aware of this condition. Please ensure customers details (mobile & email) are correct and please check your email in the days preceding your tour. Customers may be moved to the later departure at 6.45am or moved to another date should our early tour not operate. Fingers crossed for a good season! Altitude Tours review: After an early morning Altitude Tours 4.25am coach ride from Melbournes Federation Square we are ready to hit the Mt Buller ski slopes at 8.50am. We had collected our ski hire and been handed our pre-booked ski passes in Mansfield at about 7am. We are just an hour away and then travel through the picturesque high country up to the ski resort. You know its going to be a great day when snow falls ...all night and the clouds are starting to burn off just as we approached Mt Buller. The chill was still in the air which meant the mountain staff were busy topping up with man made snow. The coach arrives to a snow covered parking and we are the first coach to arrive. We put on our gear and walk to the base of the Blue Bullet chairlift for our first ride. A little practice ski down to the Holden Express chairlift for another ride up on a glorious day at Mt Buller. Skied down to the base of Summit chairlift hopping on to then head up to start my much awaited ski day from the top. It is about 9.15am and the top of the mountain has only a handful skiers. The snow is freshly groomed and it is just awesome. After plenty of runs down Summit slide, Wombat and Little Buller Spur it is time for an early noon lunch at Koflers Restaurant for Spag Bol and the essential Apricot mogul. So far it has been amazing because we had missed the crowds at ski hire, the gate, on the chairlifts, the ski runs and now at the restaurant. We take our skis off and punch our poles into the ground and find a table on the snow with incredible views. Lunch starts with a cold beer followed by a hard earned meal. Hard to believe it is t-shirt weather. The sun is shining perfectly for a few photos with friends. A sports drink and chocolate bar is all we need to be re-energised for the next 2.5hrs of skiing. We grab our jackets and gloves and snap on our skis and it is once again, game on. We head down skyline and have a go at Standard then give Shakey Knees a quick go. We eventually get to the Grimus chairlift and head back up the top to the top of Summit and anything we do from now on is just a bonus. Our coach is leaving at 4pm so we need to get to Cow Camp by 3.30pm for the free shuttle back to the coach. It has been an energy filled day at Mt Buller and sadly time to leave. We all share our stories then the whole coach sleeps for a while and we arrive back to Melbourne at about 8pm. So glad we caught the coach as we were fresh to start skiing and sleepy when we finished. I hope you enjoyed reading about my ski day experience at Mt Buller with Altitude Tours.
