Welcome to the 21st annual Christmas in the Foothills If you want to take a drive through some of the most beautiful country around and get your Christmas shopping done at the same time, Christmas in the Foothills is the place for you. This annual event, sponsored by Yuba Feather Communities Services, provides foothill merchants and organizations with an opportunity to display their wares. The holiday shopper who takes advantage of this events gets a chance to shop without traffic or crowds in picturesque locations. This year Christmas in the Foothills will be held Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7 and 8. A variety of businesses are participating, with locations in Browns Valley, Brownsville, Clipper Mills, Dobbins and Oregon House. This tour is a great way to spend the day. Take your time and enjoy each spot. Just make sure to pick up a map at any of the locations so you don’t miss any of this year’s great participants! The businesses participating this year are: 1. Foothill ACE Hardware, 13860 Willow Glen Road, Oregon House. This is the 13th year on the tour for the store with the beautifully painted water storage tank out front. The friendly folks at this popular foothill hardware store are ready to meet all your Christmas needs. They’ll be having a great holiday sale with many gift ideas for everyone in the family. Several local vendors will be set up inside and outside the store offering a wide range of local crafts and delicious foods. They’re serving free coffee and pastries to warm you up and get you started as you travel the map to all your destinations. 2. Garbarino’s Fresh Market, 7205 Marysville Road, Browns Valley. This is the 4th year on the tour for the popular market and deli. You’ll find a selection of stocking stuffers available, along with some great treats from their deli section, including their incredible homemade burritos that will leave you completely full and ready for the rest of your day of shopping! 3. Dobbins School, Dobbins School Lane (off Marysville Road), Dobbins. This is the school’s 14th year as part of Christmas in the Foothills. You’ll want to make sure you take the time to enjoy the wide variety of vendors at their crafts fair with a nice selection of gift items, stocking stuffers and decorations. Be sure to check out the snacks and fresh homemade taco soup available for purchase. 4. Collins Lake, 7530 Collins Lake, Road, Browns Valley. This is the 6th year on the tour for Collins Lake. Their remodeled and expanded store and gift shop includes great gifts for him, including tackle, sweatshirts, hats and fishing licenses. Items for her include lots of jewelry, knick knacks and clothing. They also have a nice variety of Black Bear collectibles, including signs, frames, household items, and more. And there are gift cards - their #1 gift idea. 5. Enchanted Forest, 16849 Willow Glen Road, Brownsville. This is the 12th year for this “wish” gift shop in Brownsville. They offer a little bit of everything, including toys, figurines, home decor, wind chimes, jewelry, gift cards, Big Sky Bear ornaments, t-shirts, souvenir-type items and much, much more. There are lots of goodies to peruse and probably something for everyone on your shopping list. Yuba Feather School’s PTSA will also be displayig some wares so be sure and check them out. 6. Brownsville Merchantile, 16838 Willow Glen Road, Brownsville. This is the 3rd year on the tour for this wonderful little shop with a wide variety of consignment items and other goodies, including items for home decor, jewelry, clothing and other handmade specialty items. There’s much too much to list so you’ll have to stop in and see for yourself. 7. Mayflour Bakery, 16920 Willow Glen Road, Brownsville. This is the 4th year on the tour for this wonderful little bakery where special baked goods are the order of the day. Along with a wonderful assortment of baked goods, you’ll find jams and jellies and some very unique kitchen-related gift baskets. This is another spot that offers good food at affordable prices, with soups, sandwiches and beverages available to purchase. 8. Books n’ More, 16850 Willow Glen Road, Brownsville. This is the 7th year on the tour for Books n’ More. Previously loved books are in plentiful supply, along with some other nice little stocking stuffers. Finding the perfect gift for that reader on your Christmas list will be a lot easier if you step into Books n’ More. They will have new and used books on sale, as well as featuring a Book-for-A-Dollar section. There are also some old, vintage books, and collectible ones to peruse. 9. Video Busters, 16900 Willow Glen Road, Brownsville. This is the 5th year on the tour for the popular Brownsville video/Internet/satellite TV store. Along with a great selection of movies to rent without having to go all the way to town, you’ll want to check out their great deals on buying TVs and other home entertainment systems. In addition, there are snack items and a variety of sauces and marinades to tempt your taste buds, along with Tuff Stuff Beef Jerky products. Saturday only. 10. Tuff Stuff Jerky, 7155 Marysville Road, Brownsville. This is the first year back on the tour for this popular store, now open again under new ownership. Tuff Stuff is well-known to area residents for its great selection of made-on-the-premises beef jerky in a variety of flavors, and the new owners are using the same recipes as before. Along with jerky, there are lots of taste–tempting goodies such as marinades and sauces, honey and more. There are gift selections and gift certificates, samples and refreshments available. 11. Lucero Vineyards/Winery, 10654 Texas Hill Road, Dobbins. This is the 10th year on the tour for this small boutique family vineyard and winery. They will be providing wine tasting of their Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and a blend of Cabernet and Merlot wines. There will be a selection of wines available for sale. Gift baskets are also available. These great local wines are the perfect addition to your holiday table. 12. Foothill Fire Department Auxiliary Thrift Store, Willow Glen Road, Brownsville. This is the 9th year on the tour for this wonderful thrift store in beautiful downtown Brownsville. They have a great selection of previously-loved decorations, small gift items, and much more. Everything this store makes goes to help fund the Foothill Volunteer Fire Department, so make sure you stop by. You can get some great bargains and help the firefighters at the same time! 13. Dobbins/Oregon House Fire Auxiliary Thrift Store, 9162 Marysville Road, Oregon House. This is the 8th year on the tour for this great thrift store which also exists to help raise funds for their volunteer fire department. They have a wonderful selection of decorations and gift items, and you won’t want to miss the furniture/larger item section. If you like old music, be sure and check their selection of record albums. Your purchases help the Dobbins/Oregon House Volunteer Fire Department continue to serve the needs of their community. 14. Annie Ruth’s Café, 8570 LaPorte Road, Brownsville. This is the 2nd year on the tour for this popular local eatery. They’re open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. serving breakfast and lunch. If you’re done shopping for the day by the time you get here, consider grabbing some of their spicy hot wings and/or take-n-bake pizza to finish off your day. 15. Foothill Art Society, 16911 Willow Glen Road, Brownsville. This is the 3rd year on the tour for this incredibly talented group of local artists. If you’re looking for that one-of-a-kind original piece of art for that special person on your Christmas list, you’ll almost certainly find it here. 16. Ray’s General Hardware, 9114 LaPorte Road, Brownsville. This is the 4th year on the tour for Ray’s Hardware, one of the oldest businesses in the foothills. This is a good, old-fashioned hardware store, with lots of nooks and crannies you’ll want to fully explore. In addition, they’ve got some unique gift items you won’t find anywhere else, including a great selection of warm hats and gloves for kids of all ages. 17. One-Eyed Jack’s Market & Grill, 12235 LaPorte Road, Clipper Mills. This is the 1st year on the tour for this old-fashioned country store. They’re planning a variety of activities for the kids along with craft and vendor items. While youre here, get a permit to cut your own Christmas tree in the Plumas National Forest. 18. Grange Farmers Market, 10775 Texas Hill Road, Dobbins. This is their 2nd year on the tour. Among items for sale will be local produce, baked goods, dried fruit & nuts, ceramics, collectibles, jewelry, tie-dye and more. Custom pen and ink portraits will be available along with photo opportunities. Their concession stand will have fresh coffee, herbal tea, hot chocolate and other drinks and snacks available. Saturday only. 19. Oregon House Farm Store, 14582 Indiana School Road, Oregon House. This is the 2nd year back on the tour for this old-fashioned farm store. Along with grass fed beef and lamb, pastured pork, and organic chickens and eggs, you’ll find a nice assortment of local honey and olive oil. Artisan sweaters, vests and other fiber art gifts will be available, along with one-of-a-kind jewelry items. The barn is decorated with antique Christmas decorations and a fresh-cut tree. Stop by each of these locations and help support the local businesses who give so generously to local activities during the year and whose presence makes it possible for local residents to buy items without having to travel all the way to town.
