Welcome to the Uncanny Valley. After seeing how this robot is able to respond to its environment, what gulf do you think really lies between machines like ourselves and the machines we make? What level of complexity must our creation achieve before it sees darkly, the way we ourselves do? Ive met people who reject the notion that the complexity of animal consciousness can be mimicked by human engineering, and while I think it is indeed a very high level of complexity—a very long and winding hall of mirrors—and would therefore be quite difficult to achieve, its nevertheless possible in theory. What do you think?
