Welcome to the dawn of a new day. Today you will experience a new level! I want to share a story with you. An army general who had leprosy came to a prophet for healing and he came along with gifts worth millions. The prophet sent a messenger to tell the general to go wash himself in the river seven times. Reluctantly, the general went to do as he was told because he felt going to wash himself in that river was beneath him. After he had washed himself seven times, his flesh was restored to that of a baby and he became clean. The normal thing to do in this scenario would be to give the gifts to the prophet to show appreciation, but the prophet turned down the gifts. Humbled, the army general went away acknowledging the sovereignty and power of God in the life of the prophet. The personal assistant to the prophet ran after the general and requested for some of the gifts his boss rejected, saying that he was sent to come back for them by his boss who just received some guests right after the general left but this was a lie. When he got back, his boss asked him where he was coming from and he said Nowhere. The prophet pronounced the leprosy that left the army general upon him and his descendants forever. There are two key points I want to draw from this story. The first is from the prophet who turned down the gifts when some others may have done otherwise. He had values. He had more value for the intangible than for tangible things. The second is the greedy personal assistant who stole and lied. He had more value for material things than for honesty and self-control. Ethics is about doing the right thing at the right time and for the right reasons. When these rules are flouted, there will always be consequences.
