Welcome to the group! If youve been made a member of this group and dont like it, please forgive me. Im fairly sure its easy to drop yourself from membership if youre so inclined... Facebook wouldnt let me initialize this group without selecting people from my friends list as a start-up stock of members. I tried to select individuals who might have an interest in this endeavor, keeping the entries down to only a few (3, to be exact). Ill be posting notice on my personal page re. the existence of this new group, and hopefully others will seek to get involved. My concept of Sociatry is based on this: Psychiatry developed when it became accepted that minds could be sick, with the goal of seeking remedy for illnesses. Psychology developed when it was realized that mental illnesses couldnt be remedied without a sufficient understand of how healthy minds work. Sociology developed when it was realized that minds, regardless of level of health, are interdependent on/with others around them. The stage is set,... With the realization that societies can be sick, suffering chronic illnesses as systems of social groupings, a medical science can evolve to pursue effective & humane remedies to those illnesses. This is a new paradigm. Being the flash point where the change Im hoping for might begin, Ive taken the liberty of coining a term for the next medical science: Im calling it Sociatry. Ive made this an open group, so any are eligible to join, and all can read. This should maximize both exposure of the public to the new paradigm of sociatry, and the chance that as yet unmet intelligent others might decide to get involved in its development. Ive maintained a FB page having the same title as this group for quite a while now, but I feel that approach hasnt been truly productive. I did a lot of theorizing & writing, but that format of activity didnt create a venue sufficient for others to contribute. I became aware of this shortcoming of simple pages quite a while ago, and thought to myself that I should take it to the next level, seeking participation of others in evolution of Sociatry via creation of a group for that purpose. Since then, Ive done a lot of foot-dragging, dilly-dallying, etc., debating the issue with myself. As of tonight, Ive decided to take the plunge. Ill gradually transfer all the materials Ive had stored on the simple page into the notes archive of this group, and then delete the page.
