Welcome to the online information portal of National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur. The group is aimed at providing vital information to students looking forward to pursue their B.Tech at the institution. LOCATION: NIT Jamshedpurs is located 2 km off the Tata-Seraikella Road. It is 3 km from Adityapur railway station and 11 km from main Tatanagar railway station. The Academic and Administrative buildings are located between the Up-Hostels complex and the Down hostels complex. The Kharkai River meanders 2 kilometers away from the Down Hostels. The institute is at the center of the industrial belt of Adityapur. The main market place, Bistupur is around 5 km from the campus. The Campus is extremely picturesque with greenery and thick foliage, and mountains in the backdrop. There is a High School( DAV Public School, NIT Campus) located in the campus. CAMPUS: The campus campus consists of 350 acres (1.4 km2) of land. The Colleges Academic buildings are all situated near the Main Administrative Block. All the Departments are housed within Blocks 1–7. Vishwakarma Sabhagriha (VSG) is situated centrally within the Main Complex. 9 Hostels, Tennis Court, Basketball Court, Football Ground, Cricket Pitch, Library, Student Activity Center, Community Center, A Central Vishwakarma Sabha Grih, 2 Canteens, Shyamda, NIT Store, Sudha Store, Dairy and many other facilities. RAGGING: Call it a positive or a negative feature of the institution but there is absolutely no Ragging! Rules are strict, both for freshers and seniors. 1st year students are confined to their hostels for most of the time in the first semester. Seniors are friendly and are ready to help u with any problem you face within the institute. Junior-Senior interactions are restricted before freshers party. However, things began to escalate and relations began to build up among them right after their first semester! ENVIRONMENT: The college provides a cosmopolitan environment with students from different states living and blending together. Group-ism is negligible, which is something most of the NITs and even some IITs have failed to accomplish! Summing up, the institute`s culture is one of the best in the country! HOSTELS: Boys are allotted a quad sharing room while girls are allotted a room on tri sharing basis . Honestly, you may get a shock when you see them for the first time as they dont look as beautiful, cozy and definitely not as comfortable as your room back home, but sooner u will get adjusted and the experience you will have in the here is something you will cherish throughout your life. Also, there are many facilities available like Wifi working most of the time of the day, Common room with TT tables, carom boards, chess boards etc. Every month u have the facility to choose from more than 15 different monthly magazines brought by the HEC members of ur hostel. There is Volleyball & Badminton court, lawns etc. in the hostel itself! FOOD: Many of you may have come across memes and trolls regarding the poor quality of mess food in government colleges. Well, the trolls are indeed practical and true, but not in case of NIT jsr. The food served in mess is better than most of the NITs/IITs. Some of you may even find it better than your home made food. (If your mom is too health conscious like that of mine .). U can bring a water boiler from your home and can even have Maggi with your friends in your hostel room. CAMPUS LIFE: There`s a huge set of activities to choose from, ranging from sports to cultural & technical societal events. Our technical teams have won various national and international titles and represented the college in various events abroad! In the previous semester, team PHOENIX won a title in an international event at US.Other college teams where u can nurture ur interest after joining are: Team NARM Robotics: For ROBOFREAKS in the institute. Participates in national and international robotics competition including several college techfests ,INDO-US Robo league and from this year onwards represent the institute in ABU ROBOCON. Team Daksh : If interested in vehicle designing or if you are a diehard machine fanatic then team Daksh is best for u. Team participates in BAJA SAE and has won several awards for the institute.They have represented India in 2010 BAJA International at South Africa. Team Drift: If u are a fast and furious series fan and speed is always racing in your mind then join team Drift. Members of the team are experts in High Speed race cars design and participate in FORMULAE SAE competition. Team Revanta: Wanna go eco friendly then join team Revanta. They design supermileage vehicles and come up with several creative ideas and innovations to make nex gen environment friendly cars. Team Top Guns: Participates in Aero-Designing competitions. One of the oldest team of the institute and even NASA appreciated their work in this field. Team Phoenix : FESTS: The institute hosts two major fests, called OJASS (The annual techno-managerial fest) and Utkarsh (The annual cultural fest) organised by Team Technical Affairs and Team Cultural Affairs respectively. The fests are not just good but GRAND with Guest Lectures, Star Nights, Hundreds of Events, Enormous Participation From Other Institutions and a hefty sponsorship from leading corporate houses of the country. EDUCATION: The institute follows a credit system where each subject is allotted specific number of credits, based on which CPI is calculated. The study material is easily available at NIT Store in the campus itself. Seniors are helpful and ll guide u in every possible way too besides giving u Notes, Past year papers and reference e-books. Placements: NIT Jamshedpur Stands tall as far as Placements is concerned. Amongst all NITs it was ranked 2nd in 2013 ranking of TOI. The institute boasts of almost 100% placements in leading industrial houses visiting the campus every year. Campus is surrounded by thousands of industries along with those of TATA Steel, TATA Motors and other engineering leaders which ll give u the feeling of becoming a true engineer every passing second of the day.
