Welcome to this Sundays guest Pastor: The Reverend LaMarco Cable, new Area Executive of Africa of Global Ministries for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ will be preaching at the 11:00 AM Sunday morning Worship Service, September 28, 2014 at the Park Avenue Christian Church in New York City. The congregation is also planning a service of commissioning as Reverend Cable assumes this new responsibility. Reverend Cable growing up in Memphis and the Mississippi Boulevard Christian and ordained by the Reverend Dr. Alvin O’Neal Jackson who is the current Senior Pastor of the Park Avenue Christian Church, the oldest congregation in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and celebrating its 204th Anniversary on World Communion Sunday (October 5th) will all make this a very special day for all involved. The prayer of commissioning will be given by the Reverend Dr. T. Garrott Benjamin, Jr., Bishop Emeritus of the Light of the World Christian Church of Indianapolis, IN Rev Cable is a graduate of Transylvania University in Lexington, KY where he obtained a B.A. in Religion with minors in Sociology and Communication. He earned a Masters of Divinity degree at Lexington Theological Seminary in Kentucky. Rev. Cable has served as Pastor at Hasson Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rogersville, TN and Broadway Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Winchester, KY. He has also served congregations in IN, OK and D.C. For the past three years, Rev. Cable has been the Deputy Director of Organizing at Bread for the World. Rev. Cable has traveled extensively throughout Latin America, the Caribbean and Central and Southern Africa preaching and working with grassroots organizations and local church leaders on international justice issues. He has also led student and clergy/lay delegations overseas to examine the social, political and spiritual realities of people living in the Caribbean, Central America, and Africa. He has a deep passion for justice and equipping Gods people to transform the world through advocacy.
