Welcoming back our Manitoba Walkers! Chris Swan of Lake Manitoba First Nation Treaty Two Territory, Melyssa Azevedo of Toronto, joined in North Bay by Richard Berens of Berens River First Nation Treaty Five Territory have walked from Winnipeg Legislative grounds to Victoria Island, Ottawa. Our walk started Sept 19th 2014 out of the protest camp formed in Memorial Park, Winnipeg shortly after the body of Tina Fontaine was discovered. Tina was a young indigenous woman in children’s care. The purpose of this walk is to pressure the Canadian government and Chiefs for a National Inquiry into #MMIW and to address the child care systems nationwide. “As a First Nation people we are faced with many obstacles daily from oppressive prejudices and injustices. As a grassroots movement we bring the community members together to consult them having a voice in regards to the continued suppression of our people and future generations.
