Welcoming the Third Sunday Of Advent>>>>>>>>>>> This Third Sunday of Advent is traditionally referred to as “Gaudete” Sunday, because GAUDETE is the Latin word for REJOICE! And “GAUDETE” — “REJOICE” — is the first word of today’s Entrance Antiphon (which is recited when a processional hymn is not sung. That one word — “REJOICE” — sets the theme of today’s Liturgy, as this celebration marks the half-way point in our observance of Advent. And so we REJOICE this morning, because Christmas is now less than two weeks away. And we light the pink candle in our Advent wreath as a reminder that this is a time for us to REJOICE. Let us light this third candle of Advent, a candle of Joy. In its light, let us turn our worries into prayers for God to be present to us right now, as we prepare for the coming of Christ. In a few words, let’s share those prayers with each other. Let this candle of Advent Joy shine in our hearts all week to remind us to pray and praise and place Christ at the center this season. Prayer for the Advent Wreath Lord, our God, we praise You for Your Son, Jesus Christ, for He is Emmanuel, the Hope of all people. He is the Wisdom that teaches and guides us. He is the Savior of us all. O Lord, let your blessing come upon us as we light two (purple) advent candles and the third (pink) of this wreath. May the wreath and its light be a sign of Christs promise of salvation. May He come quickly and not delay. We ask this in His holy name. Amen. Isaiah describes when he writes, I rejoice heartily in the Lord, in my God is the joy of my soul. It is a joy that cannot be bought or obtained from artificial highs. It is a joy that comes from our living faith in a living God. It is the joy we feel as we approach the birth of our Savior and remember the awesome beauty of what happened on that cold Bethlehem night. youtu.be/RnO-xKlqh6o
