Well- I am out of recovery and a k in the hotel room. It was the best possible outcome! Dr. Shea found the otosclerosis hed expected, removed the stapes, and put in the implant. Already things seems loud and strange, even tho there is cotton in my ear, and packing that will remain for 4 weeks. I nearly jumped out of my skin when he placed a tuning fork by the ear and gave it a whack! I have some interesting facial bruising where monitors for facial nerves were placed, but hey- it lends character, like Im a badass or something. Dr. Shea is so confident of the ultimate outcome that he is suggesting donating my hearing aid for tax credit. There was also no further sign of Meniers Disease or cochlear Hydrops. I am simply overwhelmed and so grateful for the many prayers offered in my behalf. Now all I have to do is become accustomed to having my left speaker turned back on!
