Well, Facebook, you may finally have crossed the final line with me... the last straw... the final nail in the coffin... I can no longer invite all of my friends on my friend list to an event - they have set a limit. Since the primary reason I have stayed with FB so long is to promote my music, and they have slowly taken away every method of doing so (cant reach all the people who have liked my grampadrew fan page without paying, cant invite them all to my shows), I am probably not long for the Facebook world. Everyone keeps telling me I need to start a blog anyway. I have provided massive amounts of content for Facebook, drawn my friends to continue to look at their increasing amounts of advertising that becomes more invasive by the day - and the only thing I asked in return is to be able to reach those same friends without paying in cash. I would argue that users who provide all their content are actually paying pretty heavily - all their personal information, all the personal information of everyone they know, all of which has a very real monetary value. I think its finally time to take my loyalty and build my friend loyalty elsewhere - a place where I actually get the benefits of the people I gather to my site. For my social activity, Ello looks nice...Ill just wait for the rest to follow the same way I did with Napster, MySpace and Facebook. I am not cutting this all off overnight. There will be a transition. But expect to see far fewer posts. Find me at Ello as grampadrew. And look for a dedicated blog in the future. I am actually looking forward to this. Ive been fighting with their constantly shitty interface for far too long, waiting for Facebook to make themselves utterly useless to me. I knew the day was coming. That day came today. I am actually surprised it took so long. Once the artists all leave, Facebook is done. Ask MySpace.
