Well, Guardians of the Galaxy... Highly entertaining, but ultimately dissatisfying. The problem for me is twofold. First, the villains are dull. Karen Gillen looks great, but is underused and underwritten to an extreme. Lee Pace as Ronan the Destroyer might as well have been a cardboard cut-out for all his charisma and menace. Benicio Del Toro would have been a great villain. Second, the plot feels flat and could be fitted to any similar movie. That said, the central cast are great and get served with a solid script that allows them to deliver witty banter from start to finish. They really bring the film to life and make it an enjoyable experience. (It is thus a pity that this is not a television series, because having this cast come back again would be great). In the meantime, Captain America: Winter Soldier still remains the best Marvel movie to date.
