Well, I appreciate all the Veterans Day posts. I did my time in the USMC (believe it or not) and lived to tell the tale. My Grandfather was in the Army during WWII, and lived to tell the tale as well. But, I think Im the only one he told tales to. My service is not something I look to get recognition for. It was my job for four years. I did this and that, got to travel to Okinawa, The Philippines, South Korea, and a lot of other places I have long since forgotten. I have seen and done things that you cannot ever imagine. ..but it was my job. My former job still haunts me to this day. I have strange dreams about being recalled back to service, as old as I am now, I cant get some random memories out of my head that just need to go away... Being a Marine doesnt define me. It was a way out from my miserable life at the time to try to rely on myself. I had a four year scholarship to a pretty bad ass music school in Boston, but I declined. Actually, I didnt even tell my parents, because I knew there would be backlash if I decided to pursue that nonsense. So three days after I graduated high school, I was off to boot camp. I wasnt even 18 years old. I constantly battle with myself about making the decision to become a Marine, and how my life might be different these days. ...but I would have never have met Kim, my wife. So, as bad as this might seem, There is a bright spot. ...and shes the brightest point in my life. For that, Im forever thankful.
