Well I completed my first public speaking engagement as a Maori - TopicsExpress

Well I completed my first public speaking engagement as a Maori Party candidate. Wanganui Principals Association Education forum. Our names were pulled from a hat the order was Hamish (well Chris spoke the labour education portfolio holder) Jack, me, then Chester. I had prepared a PowerPoint for my korero. I started with my story, our whanau experience and Iwi experience of the education system. Then I presented all the ideas you had all given to me and ended with the Maori Party Education Policies. There were a couple of questions from the floor - one on national standards and the other on the inability of a full curriculum to provide for Te Reo and Local Maori History/korero. On the last point I focused on these being embedded in what we do not seen as separate. More use of te Reo in everyday settings and incorporation of our stories in history, geography and environmental studies etc. We had a good debrief afterwards thank you to all who came to tautoko or sent their Aroha. Nga Mihi Aroha kia koutou mo tou Awhi.
