Well, I finally viewed The Wolf of Wall Street (its on NetFlix), directed by the great Martin Scorsese, starring the new raging bull of actors - Leonardo DiCaprio. All I can say is WOW! DiCaprio stars as Jordan Belfort, and the story is based on Belforts memoir of the same name. Im not sure from where or why there was so much criticism of DiCaprio because Ive NEVER seen him play any role so effectively, convincingly, and with that much pathos. He might be the new, younger Robert De Niro, and this is an endorsement I do not make lightly. Theres been a lot of films to try and capture the amoral Sociopathy of Wall Street and the finance/investment/trading industries (in general), but this film really captures and conveys the frenetic unchecked greed, pathological addictive personalities, and unbridled passions of the people who define and are Wall Street. This film was so well done, I found myself, at times, rooting and cheering for the anti-heroes (okay - the bad guys), because they really do embody the ethos of pure cowboy capitalists. They took care of each other, felt a deep bond toward each another (even competitors), and gave their money and support as generously as they doled out their raucous brand of tough love. But these people are also deeply flawed and destructively irresponsible - to themselves and everyone else with whom they get close or just come into furtive contact. This film is an instructive object lesson in the dangers of unchecked ego, personal excess, narcissism, an unjustified sense of entitlement and privilege, a deep lack of empathy, and zero sense of community and responsibility. Its a modern metaphor for the Greek Tragedy of Icarus with one notable and significant difference: the hubris of Icarus was costly only to him; whereas these modern high-tech Icaruss cause long-term damage to the lives, opportunities, livelihoods and even children of their fellow citizens. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wolf_of_Wall_Street_%282013_film%29
