Well... I had a GREAT time today at the mock trial searches for my students and Im pretty sure the dogs and their humans had a great time, too! A huge thanks to Matt Mortimer and his employer, Mauerhan Plumbing for allowing us to take over their property today! Wonderful search opportunities and distractions! Thanks, too, to Susanna Mortimer, for running Trixie first and then working as Timer for the rest of the day. What a thrill watching all the dogs work through the new distractions, demonstrating how confident and skilled they have become since they started doing Nose Work. A few of these dogs have overcome big challenges and their progress has been steady and strong. Handler skills continue to improve and the team work is a joy to watch. Everyone worked beautifully under the combined pressures of a new environment, time, use of a score sheet and remembering to call Finish. Im happy to say that of the four score sheet evaluation categories: Excellent, Good, Needs More Practice and, What Were You Thinking?, I think I gave out only 2 or 3 What Were You Thinking ratings. The vast majority of the ratings were, indeed, Excellent and Good! :-D
