Well, I knew todays concert will be a beautiful one. Any doubt about it? Read on and youll know it all .... One more rainy and beautiful day today. For me the most beautiful! The day started with watching Prince sing Devi pavane on Shankara TV. I really feel that even if Prince sings on the other days, Prince should compulsorily sing Saveri in Navarathri, because I have not heard anybody else sing Saveri and this song like Prince does. Evening was with Princes top team if Vinu, Harikumar, Karthick and Govindaprasad. When they get together, it is always special and unforgettable. Usually Prince sings at leas one song like Paramapurusham very fast. Today the concert was very calm, relaxing and chaste. I learned this word after reading Princes tribute to K.S.narayanaswamy sir in the Hindu on Friday. It was almost like Prince is already tuned to his veena concert tomorrow.and thinking of K.S.Narayanaswamy. We can give a concert like this only in a place like this. Such a divine atmosphere, no claps, very good audience, dark, with the sound of thunder in the background. It feels like a dream. Prince started with Shankarabharanam alapana. Even for the short alapana he gave Vinu a chance to play solo. Then he sang Chalamela varnam. I have seen it on youtube, but never heard him sing it live. It was very grand and royal and melodious. Though I love Prince sing Balamuralikirishna Sirs varnams like Shive Shive, when Prince sings an Ata Thaala varnam like this or Viriboni or Kamboji, it is so grand like a procession for utsavam. He really takes his time and gives love and care and attention to every single note. If the composers of these songs hear him, I am sure they will shower their blessings on him. I got to watch Princes shankarabharanam varnam because of this beautiful talk by him, which I must have heard hundred times. https://youtube/watch?v=NyQS5quY6d8 https://youtube/watch?v=8BF72HCe7fM https://youtube/watch?v=eKy0-YqJqwg After varnam is was M.D.Ramanathan favourite Paripalayamam. I have always wondered how it will sound if Prince sings this and I had never heard. I somehow didnt expect this at all and it was soooo nice, with very nice swarams too. All the accompanists were tooo good and they all came together so nicely! For me the best piece of the evening was Anandavalli in neelambari. I love neelambari so much! Today Prince sang swarams too! It was so so nice! Even now my heart is singing with Neelambari! After that Prince sang nandasutha in Rohini. I liked this more when Prince sang earlier, because it was more slow and relaxed. Today I felt that he was in a hurry. Maybe it was time for the main. Then instead of main, Prince sang another of my favourite songs. Saraseeruhanabha in Deshakshi! Though this was so short, it was so beautiful! Then came Thodi. It was such an unreal feeling, listening to Thodi notes coming from Prince. I have been listening listening listening to Prince for many years now. So I felt like that. But the wonderful thing about Prince is that if somebody had heard him for the first time today, he will feel that Prince sings thodi always. As I am writing this, Princes Thodi is coming on radio and it sounds to strong and melodious and nice! I still like neelambari much more, but thodi was nice too. He started thaanam by singing the word Thaanam! It was so sweet. Even though we cant talk or make jokes there, Prince will see to it that we will smile in our eyes and dance in our heart too. Even the swaram patterns and rhythm many times, was so much like we will feel like dancing. The song was so nice. I have never listened to it properly but the way Prince makes each word come alive, is just amazing! Even a foreign person will be able to write down the lyrics easily when Prince sings. The song has a nice Jathi too like Saroruhasana. It was really nice. Prince sang a little neraval too. That was also very nice and playful. He sang one line which sounded a little like Ayigirinandini! It was so thrilling to get that suddenly! He didnt do his usual swaram smaller and smaller thing. Maybe because it was getting late. The thaniyavarthanam was short and sweet. I enjoyed even more when they played for Princes singing than for thaniyavarthanam. Many times I have seen people play very impressive for thaniyavarthanam but not musically like todays team, for singing. Then there was little more than ten minutes and I was waiting waiting waiting to see what Prince will sing. Neelambari had already come. So no Kanthnodu. Then I was very lucky! Prince sang first Aliveni. So softly and nicely! And finished with japath japath! I loved that song from the first time I heard it. It was many years later that I heard that Prince had tuned the song! I will love to hear that even if Prince will sing it hundred times! Now I am going to sleep soon so that I can get things done in the house early morning, watch Shankara TV and then reach in time for Princes veena concert. It will be so beautiful to see Prince with Ponnammal teacher and Venkataramanan sir, all at the same time.
