Well, I missed his birthday yesterday, but Jelly Roll Morton was a pianist back in the early days of jazz and one of the first composers in the genre. (His composition Jelly Roll Blues was the first published jazz composition, in 1915.) Emilie and I saw Jellys Last Jam back in the early 90s when it came to Seattle, with Savion Glover playing the younger Jelly and Gregory Hines playing the older Jelly. Remarkable tappers as jazz icon. So cool. Happy birthday, Jelly Roll Morton!
