Well, I never thought we would ever have such a magnificent animal at our shelter. We rescued a Nilgai commonly called the Asian antelope, on the 3rd of December. The hind limb and horn were badly injured. It was very difficult to control such a large animal and I had to get more workers from the shelter. It took us a few hours to get him under control. He is now at the shelter and is being treated. Once herecovers we will release him back to the forest, his own natural habitat. A little TRIVIA for you : The NILGAI is one of the most commonly seen wild animals of central and northern India. They look like ox and so they are also called blue bull. Nil meaning blue and Gai meaning cow. How do we know that its a HE and not a SHE? Well, only HEs have horns The main threat to this species is the loss of habitat due to human population growth. They are also considered a crop menace also the Gangetic belt. People hunt them for food. Their meat tastes similar to that of beef. It is sad that man does not spare anything....Please go vegetarian if you cant go vegan. Start somewhere....Please. We wish this magnificent animal a speedy recovery.
