Well, I put in my notice at Luce today. Im feeling a variety pack of feelings about it. Excitement at the thought that I can spend more of my energy on pilates and yoga. I can get going on yoga service work, and even have some time and energy left for myself. Naturally, I feel a little trepidation about giving up all that cash money. Things are gonna be tight for awhile, while I work toward filling my schedule. (Pilates privates, anyone? Hit me up!) And I feel sentimental. I was there for NINE YEARS, dudes! I have made some lifelong friends there, out of co-workers and also regulars. Ive had the best of both. Ive met boyfriends there, fallen in love, had my heart broken, and maybe broken a heart or two. Ive gotten news of friends deaths while standing behind that bar. Twice. I cant even count how many times Ive cried in that bathroom, or while stocking beer. And the laughter! Way more than the tears. And I feel gratitude. Most of all, gratitude. Luce employees are not the easiest to manage, yknow. As a rule, were not big fans of authority. And we tend to think that rules are dumb, and we should be the exception to all of them. But Ive had the honor to work under some great managers there. When I started the pilates teacher training a million years ago, they let me do all kinds of scheduling gymnastics. When my boyfriend left me shortly thereafter, they let me work overtime for six months so I could pay my mortgage until I got a roommate. When I started practice teaching, they let me hold mat classes in the banquet room. When I wanted to go to India to study yoga for a month, they held all my shifts for me. I have nothing but love for this company. Nine years, man. Thats a lot of living. How could I not feel all of the feelings? Thank you, Pizza Luce. Regulars, staff, and management, past and present, I love you. I would tag you all, but it would take me hours, and I have to go buy a plane ticket to Costa Rica now. Im visiting Jenni Lou Roberts this winter! What? Quit my job and buy a plane ticket on the same day? Why not? I have two Crown Royal bags stuffed with quarters! Ill be there the next two Tuesdays til 7pm, if you wanna stop in and say hi. Slash goodbye.
