Well ...I said sunshine would be seen on Monday, but I didnt say what time. You may know where Im going with this. After some brief clearing in central AR, clouds moved back in overnight. In areas to the west and NW of Little Rock, clear skies have allowed temps to drop into the 20s and low 30s, but from LR to the east, clouds have hung on or moved back in and held temps up with readings in the upper 30s to low 40s. Most models keep the clouds around for most of the day with some breaking up of the clouds afternoon sometime into tonight so I do think well see sunshine today but it might not be total sun. Temps will be cool today with highs in the 30s and 40s with overnight lows in the 20s and 30s. A colder air mass will move into the state on Tuesday night with temps only rising into the 20s and 30s on Wednesday. If there had been more snow cover to the north of AR, the arctic air may have had more bite to it, but with minimal amounts the air will moderate a little by the time it gets here. New Years Eve events will be rather chilly with temps in the upper 20s to low 30s at midnight. On Thursday, the next weather system will begin affecting the state. A low pressure center will move out of the SW US and across the country. Models are still not in agreement on the timing and track of this system and that will have an impact on our weather. As of now, moisture will being moving back into AR on Thursday with a chance of rain Thursday afternoon/evening in the west and NW. Temps may support some sleet or light freezing rain in portions of western and northern AR late Thursday into Thursday night and early Friday before temps warm enough to change everything to a cold rain. There could be some sleet in other sections as the precipitation begins Thursday night into Friday morning but all precipitation is expected to change to rain on Friday. But, if the track of the system is further south than currently forecast, this could change and if the cold air is slower to move out, that also, could affect the precipitation type and duration. Friday into Friday night looks wet with rain extending into Saturday. There could be some thunderstorm activity in SE AR as well. As the system departs, cant rule out a few snowflakes in northern AR late Saturday. Since there is much uncertainty with the late week system, stay tuned for changes to the forecast. Stay warm today... and lets get that sun to shine! Satellite shot this morning and model data showing clouds breaking this afternoon except for eastern/SE AR.
