Well, I took Punkin to Dr. Caldwell today. I wasnt sure what Id hear, but wasnt what I wanted to hear. The urine test basically was fine, increased protein, etc. but nothing alarming. We did x-rays and found that she has degenerative disc disease and has bone on bone at 2 levels. Hers are not next to one another, one is about mid way her back and the other is near the base of her hips. She has been given some anti-inflammatory/pain pills and we are to keep her as quiet and still as we can for the next two weeks.... She is a Jack Russell Terrier, quiet and still are NOT in her vocabulary. She hasnt been herself for a few weeks, thus a slowing down on her own. Of course, the disc disease will continue to progress and eventually she could become paralyzed on her back legs or they wont work correctly. The blood work will be back tomorrow (I hope and pray) because we are looking for something that can rule or or confirm Cushings disease. Dr. Caldwell believes that is what she has, since she is a good match for the type dogs this affects. He just has to rule everything else out first. Ive said all this to say,,, please add her to your prayer list. She is our baby and at 11 1/2 years old we are not ready to lose her. Her quality of life is what will be most important to us... thanks and for all your pet lovers, hug em a little tighter tonight because we never expected to hear all this... There are some possibilities of treatment, but there is no cure. Usually a treated dog for Cushings will live a few years after being diagnosed and depending on what type tumor they have. thanks all!
