Well ICW has arrived and thankfully it looks like the weather is going to hold up for both days. Ive declared to run eight over the weekend with five today at Leopardstown. We introduce a nice Invincible Spirit filly in the first race but shes only ready for the day out and should improve for the experience. She was never a precocious sort but is improving all the time and will make a nice three year old hopefully. Whether we run her again this season will be decided on how she runs today but I like to give them at least one day out before their winter break. Bertie Le Belge is a lovely horse to train and has won his first two starts in spite of the trip I ran him over. He will love this trip today and I think hes come on a bit from his last run but he only does the bare minimum at home! I would like to think hes a Gr3 horse but he could be vulnerable to proper Gr1/2 types today. Gary Carroll rides both these as you know Colins suspension starts today. Brendan Brackan tries the 10f today and I think its the ideal race to do it as the Gr2 mile looks a difficult race. Jamie Spencer rides BB for Qatar racing and I think he will like him. If he gets the trip I think hes capable of winning but again there are a few talking horses in this race that we need to beat. The big 7f handicap is also a qualifier for a big pot later on at Ascot and my first priority would be to finish in the first six so we qualify for that race which is worth a whopping £250k. I run two solid chances here with Piri Wango hoping to go one better than last time at Galway. Hes a lovely sort and a big favourite in the yard and hes big enough to carry the big weight too.Gary chose to ride him. Burn the Boats ran a blinder last start and a repeat of that would do nicely. I feel hes at his best when you take your time on him and ride him for luck and weve given Joseph O Brien the task to do so! Joseph wouldnt have rode many for me (if any) as we both have our own commitments but hes a guy I rate highly and am delighted hes helping us out this weekend while Colin is stood down. Ainippe is home safe and sound already and will spend the weekend in her paddock after yesterdays race. It was a very fast run race which was new to her but she stayed at her task to finish 5th giving me the impression that she will get the 6f at least. I believe its a very tough ask for a filly to beat a colt at two and as Fast Eddie told me, it took Sole Power a few attempts to handle the pace of the English racing. That may be it for her this year and hopefully we can step up with her next season in group company. HGD
