Well Im reading a book about Christianity and Economics called Good Intentions: 9 Hot button Issues viewed through the Eyes of Faith. Its an amazing Read so far, I highly suggest it for those who want to learn how to be a faithful Christian that follows all of Gods commandments faithfully but doing so in practical ways that will make a difference! The third Chapter of the book which I just finished, entitled How to give a poor kid a million bucks, extols the importance of a Good education and the importance of encouragement in a childs development. It is because I read this chapter that I realized something. Yeah, Im a smart dude, yeah I work hard for what I have now, and yeah Im not really your average dude either. But...My momma, Michelle Rice, shes been such a huge part of my life and my education. She has always pushed me towards excellence, taking nothing less than my absolute best, the results of which she was always sure would be As in all of my classes. She believed in me, she has done so much for me, that Im thankful God made her my momma. She taught me that I can and that I will be one of the top people in whatever I set my mind to. This lady is unbelievable though. Growing up, she always kept track of my progress by communicating diligently with my interpreter throughout my elementary education. Because of that, she set a standard of excellence for me in Jr. High and High school of which I had to meet if I wanted to do the things I like and to be able to hang out with my friends. Those standards have followed me into college. Mom might not always be hovering over my grades these days but nowadays, because of Mom, I want to be the absolute best and one of the top students in my department here at SBU. Mom, Thank you for everything you did. It has helped me in more ways than I realized. I love you and I might think you drive me absolutely bonkers sometimes with you being mom-ish and all but I wouldnt ever ask for another mom for anything in the world. Now youve got a son who wants to make the most of himself and help others. Thank you! p.s. Im not wholly convinced youll be rooting for the Chiefs next Sunday. But...what can I do eh?
