Well... It seems that I struck a nerve with a couple of people regarding my post offering three suggestions on how we might be able to lessen the violence in this world. A few saw it as unrealistic and one saw it as being in denial of the true evil in the world. Boy did you guys miss the point. It was pretty simple. What I was saying was that the world has some ugliness to it, and we cannot consider ourselves above that. That I believe that compassion and caring are better expressions of our humanity than violence. And, that a philosophical point or an ideological position is the beginning of something actually happening. We have to talk about it, and then do something about it. I made a pledge of non-violence 20 years ago and am grateful that I live in a part of the world that makes honoring that pledge relatively easy compared to other places in the world. Violence as self-defense or in retribution for any even greater violence will always be with us. I was just saying how nice it would be if that were not so. Thats all. You never know. Someday we may actually Give Peace a Chance. Love, E
