Well Travis Kalanick has survived as head of Uber. Yeah, the bad press hurt them a bit. OK, now Uber is a bad boy brand (since Uber hasnt made any public changes in the past few weeks). That might help them in the future (although I think its hurt them in short-term attempts to get communities to allow them to operate). It hasnt hurt Harley Davidson to be seen as a bad boy brand, for instance. Or, look at Richard Branson. Hes played up often by the media as a bad boy and it hasnt hurt him. In fact, its helped him get more PR for his companies. This bad press continues to get Uber discussed at San Francisco parties more than anything else. Put it another way, how many people want to show up to a party in a bad boy Uber than a Lyft with a pink mustache? Many people have told me theyd rather show up in the Uber, while others tell me theyve deleted Uber and would always choose the Lyft. Bad PR can often be helpful, is what Im saying. Me? I still think that once the CEO loses the storyline that CEO is in trouble and Travis has a lot of fuel around his feet right now. I bet hes hoping no one else lights another match. In other news today Uber is still raising a huge round of investment. Wonder if any investors got cold feet because of the bad boy image? Two weeks later, have you changed your usage patterns?
